Want to Work From Home? Join a Growing Community

Are you considering working from home? If so, I bet one of your main obstacles are common beliefs
such as "If you need a job, you have to get out of
the house to find one", or "If you want to make a
living, working from home is not a realistic option".
Are these beliefs true? No, they are not. The
introduction of the internet into our lives makes
this option available to many. Although it is true
that most people still work outside the home, in
the last two decades, more and more Americans
have been working from home, developing options
to make a living without taking their pajamas off.
Some of those people are young moms and single
moms, who find working from home an easier
and healthier way to make a living, without
neglecting the kids. Many men are finding
this option appealing too. Some start working at
home when they lose a job, some because they
decide they want to spend more time with their family, and others because they are tired of working in unfulfilling and competitive work environments.
According to the U.S. census Bureau, in 1960 more than 4.5 million Americans worked from home, most of them in farming. By 1970, this number decreased by almost a half, to 2.6 millions, reflecting a drop in the number of family farmers who gave up farming during those years.
The number of people working from home continued to decrease until 1980 but in 1990, there was a dramatic rise of up to 56% when 3.4 million people were working from home. A survey from 2004 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Dept. of Labor shows that in 2004, 20.7 million Americans did some work at home, as part of their primary job. These people worked at home at least once a week and many worked at home full time.
